socialmediaIt's no wonder that Social Media Marketing is all the buzz in advertising today. You cannot go more than a couple minutes during TV commercials without seeing a Twitter Hashtag, or seeing a company directing you to their facebook or youtube channel.

While Toyota has some great Youtube Videos, and Cheeto's has a nice way of telling you their facebook address. Many Businesses aren't getting Social Media Marketing right!

We've prepared the top 3 Social Media Faux Pas:

Dont set it and forget it2Mistake #1: Setting up the profile and Forgetting it!

Many people setup their social media profiles and think they're doing Social Media marketing. The Reason people do this is because they don't understand the strategy of how using social media for business can be beneficial and even get more leads.

SOLUTION: Have a look at the profiles you have, when's the last time they were updated. Do they match your brand? With 5 out of ever 6 people you come in contact with using Facebook, don't you think you'd want to make sure that it doesn't look like you're not able to keep up with technology. If you can't keep up your profile, rethink having a presence in social media. NOTE: Having, and Using a Social Media Presence can Greatly improve your internet presence.

This is when people have there posts on Facebook going to twitter, and their posts from twitter going to Linked In. This Is NOT a good idea, All this says is I really don't care about creating conversation. I just want to make sure you HEAR ME!. No-one likes to be yelled at, and I know a lot of people who dislike repetition of any kind. You can go from being visible on social media, to being Irratable on Social Media, and if you get "muted" you've lost a potential customer.

SOLUTION: If you use schedule tools like HootSuite, Hubspot, Social Oomph or even Tweetdeck (to name a few) to post content. Make sure you're posting content at different times, and different content across the multiple networks. This will allow you to see what works (if measured correctly) and know what doesn't.

This is the number 1 reason that fans (including myself) HIDE content on their facebook wall (Essentially Muting you). Keep an eye on how you're posting. Have you ever noticed that some people who are managing their facebook pages publish a whole bunch of tweets, or status updates all at once when they "have time". This takes your resources and time on facebook and basically wastes it.

SOLUTION: Pay attention to finding a good posting frequency. On Facebook, that could be 2-3 times a day. Twitter could be done once an hour or so at most. See what kind of response rate you get and adjust accordingly...
